Major League Baseball is expected to suspend the remainder of spring training Thursday in response to the coronavirus pandemic, sources tell ESPN's Jeff Passan.
Sources tell Passan that they expect the league will likely delay the beginning of the regular season as well.
The league's owners will hold a conference call Thursday afternoon to formalize the plan.
MLB was scheduled to open its season on March 26, with all 30 teams in action.
Would not put it past CBS to broadcast fake crowd noise to the viewers at home just to create an ambience. Bottom line is whoever walks up the 18th green on Sunday will miss his once in lifetime moment. I don't think they should cancel the Masters because golfers have to make a living despite many of them being incredibly wealthy. However if they did cancel the tournament this year it wouldn't be the worst thing. Not having fans changes the whole aspect the play. Many players raise their level of play from the roars of the crowd. They can't wait to get to the next hole. Other players hear the roars and they play worse knowing other players are passing them or caught them.
